Tomoko Kawase

Tomoko Kawase (Jap.川 瀬 智子Tomoko Kawase, born February 6, 1975 in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan ) is a Japanese musician and singer of the band The Brilliant Green.

Life

Since 2001 she has been under the pseudonyms Tommy february6 and Tommy Heavenly6 alone active and since then released a total of four studio albums. In 2003 she founded the girl group Tommy ☆ angels, where she was a member of the group, but only as a producer came into existence.

Some of their songs were given a role as opening or ending of various series. So her song Paper Moon was listed in the Japanese manga series Soul Eater.

After her marriage with her bandmates Shunsaku Okuda on November 22, 2003, she officially changed her name to Tomoko Okuda (奥 田智子Tomoko Okuda ), yet she continues to be led in most cases to be Tomoko Kawase.

The Brilliant Green

After she had already been active in their own established cover band, among others they coverte Japanese groups such as Flipper's Guitar and Pizzicato Five, as a singer, Tomoko Kawase founded in March 1995, together with guitarist Shunsaku Okuda and bassist Ryo Matsui, the band The Brilliant Green. Just two months after its creation, it received a record deal with Sony, but it took more than two years until their first singles - were published - with even moderate success. Only with their third release in 1998, There Will Be Love There, they made ​​the breakthrough and their first number 1 hit in Japan. The subsequent singles and albums have been more successful, but over the years was the public interest in the group significantly. After their last album The Winter Album The Brilliant Green 2002, finally a creative break.

After almost five years of inactivity, 2007 Stand By Me was released in May. Shortly afterwards followed with Enemy and Ash Like Snow two more single releases, which were all but only moderately successful and failed to match their great successes in the years 1998 and 1999. Only with the compilation album '97 -'08 they made it back to the top of the Japanese charts. In addition, another studio album was announced for the year 2008.

Solo career

Shortly before the temporary separation by The Brilliant Green Kawase launched her first solo project. When Tommy february6 is a created specially by Kawase fictional character, which really stand out particularly innocent behavior and naive lyrics as well as by a very conservative, some nerd stick exterior. So she wears mostly very simple and hardly provocative dresses and skirts, colorful glasses in different variations and it turns their hair only in different shades of red. Originally, the character was not created with these features, much more will he " developed" in the course of time on this appearance. The february6 project began very quickly to get bored Kawase, and they began to see it as clear failure, which is why they created a new art piece.

Kawase's second -created character Tommy Heavenly6 is a kind of alter ego of Tommy february6, which is reflected not only in polarizing appearance in punk style, but also significantly modified style of music. While february6 almost exclusively produced synth pop, the music of Heavenly6 on different variations of the alternative rock is designed. Kawase considered this new character and style but not as a substitute and restart, but rather as an evolution of its predecessor. The fact that both Tommy and Tommy Heavenly6 february6 released two albums and eight singles over the years and the resumption of the activities of The Brilliant Green suggest that both projects by Kawase have now been completed.

In addition to her two solo projects Kawase was also active as a producer on several occasions. Among other things, she wrote for Asuka Hinoi the song ♥ Wanna Be Your Girlfriend ♥ and for the pop group speed they produced the double -A -single Walking in the Rain / Stars To Shine Again.

Tommy ☆ angels

Tommy ☆ angels is a girl group founded by Kawase 2003. The group consisted exclusively of female members at that time the average age of fifteen years. Despite a large marketing campaign, published on 17 December 2003 Single You'll Be My Boy was their only release so far. Tommy ☆ angels were never officially dissolved - even their official website is still active - but in the meantime is to assume that the group has ceased its activities.
