Tomsk Polytechnic University

Tomsk Polytechnic University - also Tomsk Polytechnic University, shortly TPU, from the Russian: Томский политехнический университет ( ТПУ ) - is a technical university in the western Siberian city of Tomsk with about 22,000 students, which plays a similar meaning as the state university in the city.

History

Tomsk Polytechnic University was first established in 1896 under the name " Tomsk Technological Institute ", opened in 1900 and is the oldest technical university in the east of the Urals. Between 1923 and 1934, the university changed its name several times and was temporarily " Technological Institute Siberia " and " Siberia Industrial Institute " before they then received its present name.

International Relations

Today it operates extensive international university partnerships, including with the University of Karlsruhe and the local German - Russian College of Karlsruhe ( DRKK ). Furthermore, the TPU has established in 1993 the "Russian - German Centre for Education and Research" (RDC). In addition to offering language courses, the implementation of projects with the DAAD and the care of other collaborations, the RDC is also responsible for coordinating the cooperation of the Tomsk region and Germany.

In addition to the relations in Germany the TPU also maintains relations to other countries.
