Tony Oursler

Toni Oursler ( b. 1957 in New York / USA) is an American photographer, video and installation artist.

Life

Tony Oursler studied at Rockland Community College, Suffern, New York, and put 1979 Bachelor of Fine Arts at the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia from. In 1977 he founded with Mike Kelley, the punk band Poetic, which existed until 1983 and whose history he documented on the Documenta X in Kassel. In 1996 he was awarded the Arnold Bode Prize at documenta - city Kassel. He is married to the painter Jacqueline Humphries and lives and works in a house on Henry Street in Manhattan, New York.

Work

Oursler is known above all for his dummies. On " dolls " - stuffed amorphous objects - he projected with video projectors faces or bodies and connects them with theatrical monologues.

He created the video for David Bowie's single Where Are We Now? (published on January 8, 2013).
