Tony Thompson (Boxer)

Tony Thompson ( born October 18, 1971 in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA as Anthony Tyrone Thompson) is an American heavyweight boxer.

Career

Tony "The Tiger" Thompson, the father of seven children, began at the age of 27 years with the boxes and was even a little later, in 2000, when 28 -year-old professional. Although he is right-handed, he boxes in the right display. After winning his first four fights, he lost to the then-undefeated and highly traded Eric Kirkland in four rounds on points, his first and only defeat for the next eight years. Thompson then won in 2001 against the undefeated Chester Hughes technical knockout in the first round, which aroused much interest in him. On July 14, 2007 Tony Thompson finally boxed in an eliminator for the WBO world title in Hamburg against Krasniqi and won in the fifth round technical knockout With this victory he was promoted to official WBO title challenger of the Association. As the then- WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov initially defended his title against former world champion Evander Holyfield and the belt then lost in a unification fight at IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko, Thompson had to wait for his shot at the title one year. In the meantime, he defeated Cliff Couser in two rounds.

On 12 July 2008, he lost against Klitschko in Hamburg in the fight for the IBF and WBO world heavyweight championship by a Co in the eleventh round. After he often revealed shortfalls in previous appearances, he surprised in the fight against Klitschko with a good double coverage that Klitschko at the beginning of the fight caused some problems, so that the Ukrainians with his otherwise dominant jab initially had few success. Instead, Klitschko concentrated on land with the relatively frequent use of the right hand blow the decisive effect results. In the second half of the fight Thompson then visibly tired, and so Klitschko succeeded in the eleventh round of the knockout success.

On February 23, 2013 Tony Thompson surprisingly defeated in the second round of the twelve years younger than David Price by TKO (Technical Knockout ).

At the heavyweight rematch on July 6, 2013 Tony Thompson defeated David Price again, this time in the fifth round. In the early rounds Thompson had trouble with his opponent, as well Price kept him at a distance and landed some good hits. But then Thompson forced several times its wearying opponents for slugfest in the middle distance and was thus able to land a lot of hard knocks. In round five Thompson finally drove his opponent with another hard hitting in front of him until he could put him in the ring and with yet another massive shock eindeckte. Referee Marcus McDonnell stopped the fight then counted David Price to standing and then broke off the fight.

Others

His nickname "The Tiger" gave him his children, based on Tony Tiger, an advertising figure of the Kellogg Company for their " Frosties " breakfast cereal.
