Toomas Vilosius

Toomas Vilosius ( born May 5, 1951 in Tallinn) is an Estonian politician and physician. He belongs to the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Eesti Reformierakond ).

Life and Politics

Toomas Vilosius made ​​1969 a high school in Tallinn. He completed his medical studies in 1977 at the State University of Tartu (Tartu Riiklik Ülikool ). From 1978 he worked as a surgeon in Haapsalu. In January 1994, he moved under Minister Marju Lauristin as Secretary of State ( kantsler ) in the Estonian Ministry of Social Affairs.

From September 1994 to November 1994 was Vilosius Minister for Social Affairs in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Mart Laar. He held the same office in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Andres Tarand November 1994 to April 1995 and in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Tiit Vähi November 1995 to December 1996. Subsequently Vilosius from 1999 served as a Member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) and among other things, Chairman of the Social Committee.

After his retirement from Parliament in 2004 Vilosius was Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Estonian Genome Project ( Eesti Geenivaramu ). 2006 Vilosius became head of the public relations department of the shipping company Tallink / Silja Line.

Private life

Toomas Vilosius is married to the doctor Sirje Vilosius. The couple has a daughter and a son.
