Topór coat of arms

Topór called a Polish coat of arms, which of various families of the Polish nobility ( szlachta ) was used in the time of the Polish-Lithuanian Union.

History

The coat of arms is Topór according to legend one of the oldest arms of the szlachta, possibly even the oldest. For the first time it appears as a seal in the 13th century. Until the Union of Horodło it was used at about 220 Polish noble families, mostly in the area around Krakow, Lublin and Sandomierz.

While the Union Maciej z Wąsoczą represented the coat of arms of the Community Voivode of Krakow. After the Union in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania further 150 families were included. Due to its age, the coat of arms as Starza, ie as a " time-honored " coat of arms was called.

The crest of the coat of arms is an ax.
