Tornquist, Buenos Aires

Tornquist is the capital of the Partido Tornquist in the southeast of the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina with 11,759 inhabitants (2001, INDEC. Founded in 1883 by Ernesto Tornquist, an industrialist. Originally called the city of Las Sierras, but it was in 1910 in honor of their founder renamed Tornquist.

Just a few kilometers east of Tornquist is the Sierra de la Ventana, a low mountain range with peaks up to 1200 meters altitude. Much of this Sierra is a nature reserve; the area is called Parque Provincial Ernesto Tornquist.
