Tortellini

Tortellini (plural of tortellini, Italian for "little cake " ) are ring-shaped pasta that are similar to ravioli. The stuffing can consist of a mixture of vegetables ( usually spinach) or meat ( beef, chicken, pork or mortadella ) and often consist of parmesan cheese.

Tortellini are usually served in a soup ( Tortellini in Brodo ) or with meat sauce or cream sauce.

Originally, they probably came from the Italian province of Bologna. Here they are registered as traditional Bolognese specialty since 1974 at the Chamber of Crafts in Bologna. The Tortellini in Brodo of preparation ( Tortellini in Broth ) - which applies there as a typical Sunday dish - was set there.

Mythology

Legends say that the tortellini are the navel of Venus, the goddess of love in Roman mythology and Aphrodite in Greek mythology, inspired.

Venus, the legends came to an inn in Bologna. Whether there they wanted to meet with Jupiter or whether the host held a feast in her honor, is unclear. But the cook is that, according to legend, through the keyhole of her room caught a glimpse of her bellybutton and, impressed by its beauty, have created in her honor the tortellini.
