Torwood

Torwood is a village in the Scottish unitary authority Falkirk. It is located about seven kilometers northwest of Falkirk and nine kilometers south-east of Stirling. The nearest town is three kilometers away Larbert. Torwood is connected via the A9 directly to the trunk road network.

History

In the 15th century proclaimed King James III. the Clan Forrester to the keeper of the royal forests of Torwood. Probably in 1566 was Alexander Forrester of Garden located Torwood Castle build. 1585 took the Earls of Angus and Mar a castle. After the castle in the early 17th century had fallen to the Baillie for a short time, they came in 1653 in the possession of the Forresters of Corstorphine. Today Torwood Castle is only preserved as a ruin. When Torwood Castle was abandoned, is not known. It is classified as a monument of the highest category A. A nearby Roman road and the Broch of Tappoch are classified as Scheduled Monuments.
