Toshimitsu Motegi

Toshimitsu Motegi (Japanese茂木 敏 充, Motegi Toshimitsu, born October 7, 1955 in Ashikaga, Tochigi Prefecture) is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP), Member of the Shūgiin, the lower house of the national parliament, and since 2012 Minister of METI. In the LDP, he belongs to the Nukaga faction.

Life

After studying at the University of Tokyo Motegi was from 1978 to 1980 an employee of Marubeni KK He then completed a postgraduate program at the Harvard Kennedy School. In 1983, he first worked in the Yomiuri Shimbun as a political journalist, then until 1991 as a consultant for McKinsey.

Motegis career in politics began in 1993 when he was first elected to the Shūgiin as a candidate of the New Japan Party in the 2nd constituency Tochigi (5 seats). After the end of the reign Hata and the dissolution of the party he joined after a few months as an Independent in 1995 the LDP. As a result of electoral reform of 1994, he ran for the LDP from 1996 in each constituency Tochigi 5, which apart his hometown Ashikaga also Sano and Tochigi. From 1999 to 2000 Motegi was Parliamentary Secretary ( seimujikan ) in the MITI, from 2001 to 2003 then Prime Minister Koizumi Secretary of State ( fuku - daijin ) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After the 2003 election he was appointed Shūgiin Koizumi Minister of State for Affairs of Okinawa and the Northern Territories, data protection, science and technology policy in his second cabinet.

From 2007 Motegi was chairman of the Committee on Health and Shūgiin work before Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda called him in August 2008 to the Minister of State for the financial sector. Like its predecessor, Yoshimi Watanabe, he also received the responsibilities for administrative reform and the reform of public services. However, Fukuda's successor Taro Aso took it over in September 2008, not in his cabinet, the responsibility for the financial sector was added to the Ministry of Finance.

From 2011 to 2012 Motegi was under Sadakazu Tanigaki PARC chairman of the LDP. In December 2012, Motegi was Minister of Economic Affairs in the second cabinet of Shinzō Abe.
