Toshinari Shōji

Toshishige Shoji (Japanese东 海林 俊 成, born October 27, 1890 in Sendai, † 10 December 1974) was a major general of the Imperial Japanese Army. Shoji graduated in 1912 at the Military Academy in 1939 and finished his studies at Tohoku University as an officer.

After Shoji in 1939 assigned to the 2nd Replenishment Division, he received on August 1, was promoted to colonel. Towards the end of the year he took over the regiment Sendaier district. After the start of the Japanese preparations for the offensive in the direction of Southeast Asia Shoji was transferred to the 230th Infantry Regiment as Commanding Officer on 1 April 1941. The regiment landed under his leadership on March 1 of the following year on Java. Colonel Shoji was able to receive the surrender of the Dutch KNIL troops in Bandung on March 8.

Shoji left again in 1943, the regiment, and served again in the headquarters of the 2nd Division supplies before it has been assigned in the same year as the Supreme Commander of the 30 security unit. In 1944, on March 1, he was promoted to Major General and the offset as chief administrator in the recruiting office of the 5th Regional Army.

On March 31, 1945 Shoji Toshishige took over as commanding officer for the umpteenth time tasks in Sendaier district, which had meanwhile been renamed to Sendai Regional Command.

Two years later opened the Canadian Army in Hong Kong a war crimes trial against Shoji Toshishige.
