Totora (Oruro)

Totora is a village in the department of Oruro in the highlands of South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Totora is the central place of the Canton of Totora district ( bolivian: Municipio) San Pedro de Totora and administrative center of San Pedro de Totora province. The village lies at an altitude of 4023 m at the headwaters of the Rio Totora, on the western slope of the Serranía de Huayllamarca, of a 100- kilometer-long ridge that extends on the Altiplano in the northwest -southeast direction.

Geography

Totora is located in the Bolivian highlands between the Andes mountain ranges, the Cordillera Occidental and the Cordillera Central in the west to the east. The region has a typical diurnal climate in which the average daily temperatures fluctuate more than the average seasonal temperature fluctuations.

The mean average temperature of the region is located at 7 ° C (see climate chart Curahuara de Carangas ), the average monthly values ​​vary only slightly between 4 ° C in June / July and 9 ° C from November to March. Totora is located 188 kilometers by road from La Paz, the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz from the Ruta 4 introduces the paved highway Ruta 2 to El Alto, from there the Ruta 1 in a southerly direction as asphalt road to Patacamaya, then in a southwesterly direction to Cañaviri. From there take the dirt road to the south over Umala after Chilahuala and crosses the Río Desaguadero there until they reached after 60 kilometers of San Pedro de Curahuara. From there, the road continues another 28 kilometers to the south-west by Totora.
