Trams in Messina

The tram Messina consists of a line running direction in the Italian city of Messina in north-south.

History

In the years 1917-1951 there were in the city already have a tram network. After a more than 50 - year hiatus, the modern streetcar Messina was opened on 3rd April 2003. This was preceded by a long planning and construction.

The terminus Gazzi was taken later in operation; first completed the tracks at the station Bonino.

The tram replaced the former 28 bus on the same line path and kept their line number.

Rolling stock

The current fleet consists of 15 modern low-floor articulated trams from five elements of type Alstom Cityway.

Line path

The tram line path is oriented in a north-south direction, parallel to the coast and part of the train to Catania. The tramway served the central areas of the city. It has 18 stops and achieved inter alia the polyclinic, the end points of the southern bus lines ( at the end point Gazzi ) and the cemetery. It also crosses the central street of Viale San Martino and the Piazza Cairoli. The tram runs on its own rail body and has a track length of 7.7 km.
