History

The demand for public transport in Miskolc came on in the second half of the 19th century. The newly built railway station and you were far away at the time of the city proper, and even more was the way of the neighboring town Diósgyor and its ironworks. Plans for the first tram line was completed in 1895.

The first tram line was opened on 10 July 1897, made use of the termini including eleven stations. They ran from the Tisza Railway Station to St. Anne's Church. This route will be also used by two lines operated today. Miskolc was to Budapest ( 1887), Pozsony (1895, now Bratislava ) and Szombathely (early 1897), the fourth town in Hungary, which received an electric tram. Miskolc was also to Budapest, Temesvár, Szeged and Debrecen, the fifth city with a standard gauge operation while the nets were meterspurig in Pozsony and Szombathely.

Due to the success of the Eastern world - route a north- south line ( a popular theme park) was built before the end of 1897 between Búza tér ( the main market of the town) and the People's Garden. This line was extended in 1910 to the nearby village Hejőcsaba.

At the beginning of the 20th century, east-west route was extended after Diósgyor. Traffic on the line between the St. Anne's Church and Diósgyor was recorded in 1904.

The concession for this route has not been defined as urban railway, but as suburban train as they crossed the border town of Miskolc. It was operated by another company, the Miskolc- Diósgyőri Helyiérdekű Vasút Rt (MDV, Urban Railway Company Miskolc- Diósgyor ), whereas the line station Tisza - Saint Anne's Church of the Miskolci Városi Villamos Vasút ( MVV, Urban tram Miskolc ) was operated. For this reason, the passengers had to change trains at the church. This inconvenience was eliminated in 1906, when both lines were combined and the operation of the line was taken over by Diósgyor by MVV.

By 1947, the streetcar company supplied the city of Miskolc also with electrical energy.

After the Second World War, the city's borders were shifted further to the outside. Miskolc was the second largest city of the Hungarian People's Republic. Heavy industry grew in importance and social housing were built, making bus and tram lines, new passengers won. Now their main task was to transport workers to the factories.

In 1954, the MVV was merged with the company operating the bus routes under the name Miskolc Városi Közlekedési ( MVK, city traffic Miskolc ). The north-south line was closed in 1960 because they are not opened up the new residential areas in this field. In 1964, the route was Tisza Railway Station - Diósgyor expanded to double track.

In 2010 AnsaldoBreda emerged as the winner of the tender and should provide new pathways between early 2012 and late 2012. Since competitors appealing against the decision appeal, this order was canceled court in 2010. Two new calls for tender were inconclusive and only on 15 February 2012, the new tracks were ordered at Škoda Transportation. The delivery will now take place between February 2014 and February 2015.

On 3 May 2010, the work towards complete renovation of the line of line 1 and its extension beyond the previous Stumpfendstelle Diósgyor addition, 1.5 miles to the new turning loop Felső - Majláth began. Overall, the range extension includes three stops. It ends on the narrow gauge railway station LAEV to Lillafüred and Garadna, however, only the tourist traffic is used. At the stop Diósgyőri Gimnázium a return track was centered between the track rails applied so that it is possible to have reinforcing rides at this stop. Since December 14, 2011 were held probe and driving school rides on the new section. On 16 January 2012, the new line was put into operation.

Since March 1, 2012, on line 2 to the ironworks only Monday to Friday. The ironworks, which formerly had heavy traffic and worked the majority of the citizens of Miskolc is now almost completely shut down.
