Transcription factor II ( TFIIE ) is a protein complex in the nucleus by two lateral animals ( bilateria ) which is part of the pre-initiation complex for the transcription of all genes. In particular, TFIIE mediates the binding of TFIIH to the polymerase - TFIIF - TFIIB - TFIIA - TFIID - promoter complex. TFIIE is a tetramer made ​​up of two subunits ( α, β ) with 439 and 291 amino acids. TFIIE - β is already to be found in simple multicellular animals and fungi and contains a DNA - binding domain, while TFIIE - α has a zinc-finger motif. TFIIE - α also interacts with TAF6 and TFIIE - β with FACT.
