Trento–Malè–Marilleva railway

The railway line Trento -Marilleva, Italian ferrovia Trento -Marilleva, is a narrow gauge and electrified narrow-gauge railway in Italy. It led originally from Trento to Malé and was extended to Marileva 2003. It is operated today was from the Trentino trasporti SpA, the former name of the operating company ferrovia Elettrica Trento -Malé ( FETM ) or ferrovia Trento -Malé (FTM ). The track is also well known under the German name Nonstalbahn because it leads into the valley of the same.

History

The plans for the train to go back to a proposal of the mayor of Trent, Paolo Oss Mazzurana, on 17 October 1891. The city should be connected by a railway with the neighboring valleys. It provided a gauge of 760 millimeters (also known as Bosnian gauge known), to run but then came the meter gauge. Upon such concession began on April 1, 1907, the construction work by the firm Stern & Hafferl that had already been implemented, among others, several similar railway construction projects in Upper Austria. The distance between Trento and Malé could be put into operation on 11 October 1909. The railway was originally 59.643 km long and was operated at 800 volts DC. The original route was partially carried out in the form of an interurban tram, in most localities frequented the web on grooved rails through the main street.

As 1919, the Trentino with the Treaty of Saint- Germain fell to Italy, first took over the Italian state railway operations management. In 1936 the Società Trasporti Autonoma Public Gardens, short SATP founded, which took over the web. From this modern society emerged. After the web was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, the competent Ministry of Infrastructure, approved on December 22, 1948 the reconstruction of the railway. You should receive a consistently own roadbed, among other things, to enable a fully separated from traffic operation. The completion of the renovation of the old track was on 29 May 1960, the opening took place on June 25, 1961, one day after the completion of the last new section. The track was now 55.7 km long and was operated at 3000 volts DC.

1964 new railcars were procured. They took on December 13 on their service. The last of the old wagon has been placed out of service on December 9. The new cars had a top speed of 90 km / h With them, the travel time was shortened compared to operation before the conversion, and with the old car, from three to one and a half hours.

In the 1990s, were gradually replaced the old S27 rails with new, much more robust S49 rails. In addition, on 13 December 1994, the train has received four new railcars. On October 26, 1995, there came to the port of the web at the FS to further improve the operating procedure, and the time-consuming transfer of the state railway was considerably shortened.

On 6 May 1997, the extension of the railway was taken to Marileva in attack. As part of this construction, there was also a renovation of the Mostizzolo viaduct and the Vergondolatunnels. With the opening of the section to Marileva on May 4, 2003, the railway was extended by another 10.336 km. The opening was overshadowed by an accident. A company car, which herfuhr before Einweihungszug, derailed at a set on the tracks obstacle. Suspected some expropriated in the course of construction citizens of a nearby village.

Other plans provide the route to extend for a further seven kilometers. This Fucine would be achieved. Are planned around three kilometers of tunnels along the route. In addition, one would like to expand the section between Trento and Mezzo Lombardo twofold. This would allow in this section is a 15 -minute and on the first eight kilometers to Lavis a 7 ½ - minute intervals.

Routing and operation

The route starts at the Trento FS station and leads along the valley floor with multiple operating dodging the station Mezzocorona, where connection is made to the network of Trenitalia. From Mezzolombardo the route leaves the valley floor and rises into the Val di Non. Through numerous viaducts and tunnels, the new end Marrileva is finally reached. Probably the most spectacular bridge in 1959 inaugurated Santa Giustina Viaduct over the river Noce, with a wingspan of 78 meters and a height of 140 meters, the highest in its time railway bridge in the world. The maximum gradient is 50 per thousand, the smallest curve radius is 80 meters.

The speed limit is 90 km / h Currently, some courses only run to / from Malé, and to gain short courses are offered.

Rolling stock

The vehicles of the procurement generation were four-axle electric railcars of series 41/s.0 and 42/s.0 the kkStB and resembled the original vehicles of Localbahn Innsbruck Hall in Tirol ( LBIHiT ). Of these vehicles, no copy was retained. Is obtained as a monument, a reconstructed vehicle Originalbeiwagen, based, however, in substantial part on a freight car of the Rhaetian Railway. Furthermore, a few freight wagons from the opening time are still present.

In modern vehicles made in Italy there are mainly multi-part articulated railcar.

  • Four railcars were built in 1995 by Ansaldo: ET 15-18.
  • Fourteen railcars were procured from 2005 Alstom: ETi 8/8 401-414.

Railcar ET 15-18

The railcars are 36780 ET 15-18 mm long and 2650 mm wide. They offer 95 seats and 150 standing places. In addition, two wheelchairs may be accommodated. The curb weight of the vehicle is 66.7 tons. Eight DC motors speed trains with 1 m/s2 to a maximum speed of 90 km / h Together they have a power of 1195 kW.
