Trionfo di Afrodite

Trionfo di Afrodite is a cantata by German composer Carl Orff. The written during the years 1949-1951, about 45 minutes long " scenic concert " ( Orff ) is the final part of the triptych trionfi, which still exists from Carmina Burana Carmina and Catulli.

It was first performed in 1953 under the direction of Herbert von Karajan at La Scala in Milan.

The Latin and ancient Greek text of the Trionfo di Afrodite is based on the poems of Catullus, Sappho and Euripides. The plot is an antique wedding celebration that ends with the appearance of the goddess of love Aphrodite.
