Trout River (Northwest Territories)
The Trout River ( English for " Trout River ") is a left tributary of the Mackenzie River in Canada's Northwest Territories.
The Trout River forms the outlet of Trout Lake. He leaves it on the north shore and flows in a northeasterly direction. He has occasional rapids and takes the water from several streams and lakes. The river begins to meander before it is crossed by Highway 1 ( Mackenzie Highway). The Trout River now makes a sharp turn towards the north. It flows through to the last 20 kilometers of a 60 m deep gorge before flowing 50 km upstream from Jean Marie River in the Mackenzie River. In the east, bordering the catchment area of the Trout River to the Redknife the River, on the west by that of Jean Marie River.
The river is named the Trout River Formation, a stratigraphical unit of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
