Trude Marstein
Trude Marstone (born 18 April 1973 in Tønsberg ) is a Norwegian writer and translator.
Life and work
Trude Marstone studied education, psychology and literature at the University of Oslo and completed an author study at the University of Telemark in Bø. In 1998 she made her debut sult with the prose collection Sterk, plutselig kvalme (Great hunger, sudden nausea ), for which she was awarded the Tarjei Vesaas debutant price. She wrote a children's book, novels, essays, and co-authored with other authors a spectacle.
In 2000 she published her first novel Plutselig Høre noen Apne s dør ( Suddenly the sound of a door opening ). 2006 the work of the newspaper Dagbladet has been declared one of the 25 best novels of the Norwegian past 25 years. The action takes place in Oslo and is written from the perspective of a woman who reflects on her life and can not get free from the braid own and others' motives.
" Trude Marsteins language is simple, yet artfully: In clear, everyday words and short texts she brings her observations to paper, small time jumps and the linear sentence structures seem realistic to. Particular attention was her novel gjøre godt ( do good, 2006). He received the Norwegian Critics Prize and has been translated into Danish, translated Swedish, Dutch and French. The plot of the very extensive novel, which focuses on the birthday celebration of the beautiful, ambitious and not particularly sympathetic Karoline is playing at a single weekend in July in and around the café Elvebakken in a fictional town from Norwegian province. From this event, branch 118 narrators ( guests, staff, babysitters, neighbors, passers-by ) in many directions, always new relationships and perspectives emerge and are interwoven by the author in filigree storytelling. Especially Marsteins " technical brilliance " was praised. Nevertheless, the reader keeps track of the number of persons; by perspective shifts " slowly built up a picture of the banal, random, tragic and perhaps even beautiful lives of people who live close to each other and their circles touch sometimes with or against their will ."
Was published in 2004 Konstruksjon above inderlighet ( construction and interiority ), 14 essays on literature. Marstone lives in Oslo district of Gamle Oslo.
