Turkestan Tulip (Tulipa turkestanica )

The Turkestan Tulip (Tulipa turkestanica ), also called Turkestan Tulip, is a species of the genus of tulips ( Tulipa) in the lily family ( Liliaceae ). She is one of the earliest flowering in tulip varieties.

Features

The Turkestan Tulip is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches stature heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. This Geophyt forms onions as outlasting. The shell of the onion is inside hairy silky - tomentose. There are (two to ) is generally four to five true leaves present. These are blue-green, satin, ribbon-shaped, up to 15 centimeters long and 0.5 to 2.5 inches wide.

The white fluff hairy stem bears ( two or ) four to eight ( or twelve ) flowers. The bud is erect. The flowers are bell-shaped wide and narrowing at the base. The bloom is off-white on the top and have a yellow background. The outer bloom measure 1.2 to 2.5 x 0.3 to 0.6 centimeters and are narrower than the inner. The inner bracts are pointed and measure 1.1 to 2.4 × 0.4 to 1.1 centimeters. The stamens and bracts are hairy at the base. There are two circles, each with three stamens present. The anthers are purple, brown or yellow and have a dark tip. The ovary is wearing a short stylus.

The flowering period is in March, sometimes in April.

Occurrence

The Turkestan Tulip is in the West Tian Chan and Western Pamirs in montane to subalpine maple and juniper bushes, and in steppes at altitude 800-3000 meters in front.

Use

The Turkestan Tulip is scattered used as an ornamental plant in borders and rock gardens. It is in culture at least since 1880.
