Tumegl / Tomils (Romansh Tumegl, German and until 1943 officially Tomils ) was until December 31, 2008, a municipality in the district Domleschg in the district of Rhein Behind the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Since January 1, 2009 Tumegl / Tomils belongs together with Feldis / Veulden, Trans and Scheid merged to Tomils.

Coat of arms

Description: In blue over a siebenstrahligen golden ( yellow ) star with a golden crown. The municipal seal from the 19th century shows a Coronation of the Virgin. For the arms of the seal image was reduced to symbols star and crown.

Geography

The former municipality is situated on the western slope of the Stätzerhornkette in Domleschg. They ranged from the Rhine to back up to 1200 m and included the village Tumegl / Tomils, castle Ortenstein ( 754 m), the hamlet Rofna (901 m), Mulegns ( 682 m) and Mos (1014 m). From all over the former municipality of 321 ha 179 ha is forest and 16 ha of unproductive area. At least 109 ha can be used for agriculture. The remaining 17 ha settlement area.

Languages

Originally said the residents of the community Sutselvisch, a Grison Romanesque dialect. 1880 gave 87 % and 1910 73 % Romansh as their main language. The demise of the original language continued to this day. 1941 were still 59% Romansh. After that, the community gradually tipped the German. Since 1970, the German-speaking majority in the Romanesque and are lost to a great extent more and more ground. The development since 1980 shows the following table:

Origin and nationality

From the end of 2005 355 inhabitants were 337 ( = 95 % ) Swiss nationals.

Attractions

  • Below the village lies the places flintlock. It is privately owned and not open to visitors.
  • In the Catholic Church we find the largest contiguous wall painting by Hans Ardüser.
  • Above the village ruins found an early medieval church building Sogn Murezi.
