Turany nad Ondavou

Turany nad Ondavou ( until 1948 slovak " Turiany "; Hungarian turany - to 1902 Zemplénturány ) is a municipality in the district Stropkov in eastern Slovakia.

The community Turany at the Ondava is about twelve kilometers south of the district town Stropkov at the north end of the Velka Domaša Reservoir. The westward gradually increasing Ondauer Bergland ( Ondavská Highlands ) reaches heights of 300 to 350 meters above the sea.

Turany is located on the trunk road 15 (other name: I/15 ), which runs from Svidník to Vranov nad Topľou and acts as part of the transit route of south-eastern Poland to Hungary. Approximately 1000 feet north of the community branches off highway 556 after Giraltovce from which forms an important link from Prešov, the capital of the Regional Association, the main resort area at the reservoir VeLka Domaša.

Part of the proceeds of the population comes from small guest houses and holiday homes; immediately south Turanys is a great campground.

In 1567 the city was first mentioned in a document. During the construction of VeLka Domaša Dam (1962 to 1967) had to give way to the lake dammed many houses in the community. The village was rebuilt a few hundred meters east to higher ground terrain. Full gone is the 1964 is my finished Petejovce community, which lay to the south of the village. The 1964 is also finished my village Vyšný Hrabovec is again self-employed since 1990.

The population Turanys is 97 % Slovak. 91 % of residents gave as a confession to Roman Catholic, 5 % profess the Greek Catholic Church.
