Turek, Poland

Turek [ turɛk ] ( German Turek ) is a town in Poland in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. It is located between Konin and Kalisz.

History

The first written mention of the village dates from the year 1136. Town charter was the place 1341st 1793, the city was part of Prussia. In 1807 it fell to the Grand Duchy of Warsaw and in 1815 a part of Congress Poland. The first Protestant school in the city, opened 1835. 1867 Turek was county seat. 1867 to 1869 a parsonage was built. 1936 3,100 people lived in Turek. In 1939, the Polish town of Turek previously was occupied by the Wehrmacht and slammed the Reichsgau Warta country. With the end of World War II, the city was again part of Poland. 1975 lost the place as the headquarters powiat, but received him with a renewed administrative reform 1999.

For the rural community Turek, to which the city Turek does not belong, belong 20 districts ( German name until 1945) with a mayor's office.

Other villages in the municipality are Cisew Maly, Szadowskie Gory, Szadów Panski and Wrząca.
