Turnpike Lane tube station

Turnpike Lane is an underground station of the London Underground in the London Borough of Haringey. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 3, at the junction of the main roads Turnpike Lane, High Road, Westbury Avenue and Green Lanes. In the year 2011 there were 9.8 million passengers these from the Piccadilly Line station.

The opening of the station took place on September 19, 1932, when the Piccadilly Line Finsbury Park from north to Arnos Grove was extended. Due to the terrorist attacks of 7 July 2005, the station was closed for a few weeks; on August 4, was the re-opening.

The building, designed by Charles Holden station building is a well preserved example of modernist architectural style of London Transport in the 1930s. The main hall is located in a building constructed of brick cube of enormous dimensions. The window at the towering walls are arranged so that the natural light to almost reaches down to the platforms. In the late afternoon light reflections are observed as in the transept of a cathedral. Since 1994, the building is a listed building (Grade II). The station is, as Turnham Green, mentioned in the song Junkie Doll Mark Knopfler, which appeared on his album Sailing to Philadelphia.
