U.S. Chess Championship

The United States Chess Championship is an annual invitational tournament, in which a master among the chess players in the United States is determined.

From 1909 to 1936, Frank Marshall recognized the best player in the United States, who defended his title against challenger in competitions. After he resigned voluntarily, the national champion was determined from 1936 in tournaments organized by the United States Chess Federation. By 1999, the championship was held as a round-robin tournament with varying numbers of participants. Between 1999 and 2006, the Seattle Chess Foundation set up (later: America 's Foundation for Chess ) the tournament according to the Swiss system. After their withdrawal the championship in 2007 and 2008 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, 2009, 2010 and 2011, in Chess Club and Scholastic Center was in St. Louis, Missouri played out.
