Uckermark Lakes Nature Park

The nature park is a Uckermärkische lakes situated in Brandenburg 897 km ² [Note 1] large natural park, which was created on May 3, 1997. It includes about 230 lakes, streams, marshes and ponds.

Location and extent

The nature park is bordered to the north directly to the Nature Park Feldberg Lakes, on the west by the Natural Park Stechlin - Ruppin country and with them forms a contiguous lakes landscape. Southeast of the nature reserve lies the Biosphere Reserve Schorfheide -Chorin. Nature Park includes parts of Neustrelitzer small lakes country, Schorfheide, the Uckermärkischen hill country, Templin plate, the Zehdenick - Spandau Havelniederung, the Granseer plate and the Woldegk field Berger hill country. The nature park includes the following protected areas:

Others

Heraldic animal of the natural park is the osprey, who lives here in an unusual density with 30 breeding pairs. Other rare animals such as the brown trout, the otter, the European pond turtle and the noble crayfish, living in the Natural Park. On rare plants, the straw yellow orchid ( Dactylorhiza incarnata subsp. Ochroleuca ) is located here, among others.

Because of its more than 100 km of water trails in the nature park is very popular with paddlers.

The visitor center of the Natural Park is located in the Berliner Tor in Templin.
