Uherčice (Břeclav District)

Uhercice ( German Auerschitz, formerly Auer contactor) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located seven kilometers north-west of Hustopeče and belongs to Okres Břeclav.

Geography

Uhercice is located on the left bank of Svratka at the foot of the hills of Hustopečská pahorkatina in the northeast of the Thaya Schwarza valley floor. West of the village flows the Satava in the Svratka. In the north- east rises the Růžová (Rosenberg, 283 m) and in the southeast the Uherčické Staré Hory ( Altberg, 311 m).

Neighboring towns are Nosislav and Velké Němčice in the north, Křepice, Nová Ves and Nikolčice in the northeast, Kurdejov in the east, in the southeast Starovice, Popice and Pouzdřany in the south, Ivaň the southwest, Vranovice in the west and Přísnotice in the northwest.

History

The first mention of Uhricic was in 1220 when Otakar I Přemysl gave the village Konrad Graf von Hardegg. At the time, in Uhercice already a church that belonged to the Benedictine monastery Vilémov. In 1267 the village was called Hursit and 1340 as Aurcicz. During the Hussite Wars the Vilémover Benedictine fled to Uhercice. They built in Uhercice provost and Abtssitz. 1459 is the place preserved as Určice and in 1496 the present name was first Uhercice use. The last abbot Peter was distributed by Protestants from Uhercice. He fled to the Abbey Rajhrad, where he died in 1541. The oldest town seal dates from 1555, it shows a billhook. In 1836 lived 1015 people in 175 houses of the borough.

After the abolition of patrimonial Uhercice / Auer contactor formed in 1850 a municipality in the district team Auspitz. After the regulation of Svratka the place expanded on the right bank, where the local situation Trávník arose. In 1930, the village consisted of 280 houses and 1210 inhabitants had, for the most part belonged to the Czech minority. After the district town Auspitz and the southern neighboring towns were added to the German Reich in 1938 as a result of the Munich Agreement, Uhercice was on the German border. The market town Uhercice was then to 1945 assigned to the District Policy Brno-Country District Court and the Židlochovice. After the end of World War II the Okres Hustopeče was restored. After its successful 1960 repeal Uhercice belongs to Okres Břeclav. At the 2001 census the town had 1021 inhabitants.

Attractions

  • City Hall, the late-Renaissance building with arcades from 1602 is the oldest building in the village. It was renovated during the years 1995-1997. Since 1998, in the town hall again the seat of the municipal administration, a lounge and a restaurant.
