Uli Trepte

Uli Trepte ( born September 27 1941 in Konstanz, † 21 May 2009 ) was a German bass player, singer, composer and lyricist.

Life

He was a founding member of the free-jazz trio playing Irène Schweizer (1966-1967) and the pioneering Krautrock group Guru Guru ( 1968-1972 ). Trepte played with the progressive bands New!, Fist and Kickbit information as well as musicians like Yusef Lateef, Gato Barbieri, Barney Wilen, John McLaughlin, Mal Waldron, Edgar Hofmann and Hans Hartmann.

He led his own groups " Spacebox " (1975-1984) and "Move Groove" (1996-2001) and made recordings under his own name, with which he consistently his concept of a European polyphonic collectively improvised, minor - dominated modalharmonischen, cyclically structured organic- electric, groovy live music realized. He also worked with Aja Waalwijk, Amsterdam together on unusual song project takes on Words.

Trepte lived in London, Tokyo, New York; Since 1985, he lived as a multimedia artist based in Berlin, where he developed a special type of text performance.

Uli Trepte died on May 21, 2009 from cancer.
