Ulrich Bettac

Ulrich Berthold Bettac Ewald ( born 2 May 1897 in Stettin, † April 20, 1959 in Vienna ) was a German - Austrian actor and theater director.

Life

Ulrich Bettac visited 1916/17 drama school of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, and then made ​​his debut at the court theater Oldenburg. From 1919 to 1921 he played in Frankfurt am Main and then came to the Berlin stage.

From 1927 he was engaged as a bon vivant and from about 1945 as a character actor at the Burgtheater in Vienna. After the "Anschluss " of Austria Bettac was that had belonged to the previously illegal SA Brigade 6, deputy regional director of the Ministry of Arts. Of 23 August 1938 to 30 April 1939, he served as temporary manager of the Burgtheater, since the actually foreseen Lothar Müthel, also a convinced National Socialist, only the consequences of a serious car accident had to recuperate. Bettac also staged some pieces, especially at the Academy theater. Both as an actor and as a director, he preferred conversation pieces.

After a few silent film roles Bettac was hard to see a longer time in the film as an actor, but he led in the 30s dialogue director in the strip The mistress of Paris (1936, unfinished), ring (1937) and the large and small Love (1937 ). It was only in the 50s, he took a number of smaller film roles.

The Kammerschauspieler Bettac served as president of the Austrian stage and members as Executive President of the " artists helping artists ." He was bearer of the Ring of Honour of the Burgtheater.

He is buried in an honorary grave dedicated to the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 13 B, number 1, number 13).
