Ultramarine (Band)

Ultramarines are a British electronica band that was founded in 1989 by Ian Cooper and Paul Hammond. For some live performances and remixes both appeared together with other musicians under the name Ultramarine Big Band on.

Band History

Cooper and Hammond both grew up in Maldon, Essex and know each other since they were 14 years old. Mid-1980s, both founded with three other musicians, the band A Primary Industry. The published 1986 debut album of the band already had the title Ultramarine.

Later, Cooper and Hammond moved to London. After the dissolution of A Primary Industry both founded the band Ultramarine. Their first release was the single Wyndham Lewis, whose texts they took a spoken word recording of the same artist from the 1940s. In April 1990, her debut album, Folk appeared on the Belgian label Les Disques du Crépuscule. A larger audience, they were known by their second, published in 1991 on Brainiak Records album Every Man and Woman is a Star.

In 1992, the band toured with, among others, Meat Beat Manifesto and orbital through the USA and 1993 in collaboration with Björk by the U.S. and Europe.

For the United Kingdoms album released in 1993, the band worked with, among others, with the musician Robert Wyatt. The decoupled single from the album Kingdom reached in July 1993, the British charts, and thus represents the biggest hit of the band dar. 1994 steered David McAlmont singing to Kevin Ayers single Hymn written on. 1995 appeared on Blanco y Negro Records the fourth studio album Bel Air After release of the album A User's Guide in 1998 at first seemed no more new material.

As of 2002, produced Paul Hammond solo under pseudonyms such as Further Details and Iken new music. In 2003, LTM Recordings on the compilation album Companion ( Every Man And Woman Is A Star Versions).

The multi-year break ended in 2010, when the band on selected events occurred for the first time live again. In 2011, then appeared with Find A Way and Acid / Butch two new singles of the band. In September 2013, the sixth studio album This Time Last Year followed.
