Umawera (language of the Māori burned breast) is a municipality in the Far North district in the Northland region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located on State Highway 1 Mangamuka Bridge is located about 5 km north-west, Rangiahua about 6 km east on Hwy. A side road leads to about 3 km south gelegene3n Orira A tributary of the Orira River flows through the town. The name of the town derives from an accident in which a child is burned hard.

The village has a primary school, Umawera School, for grades 1-6 with a decile rating of 2 and 40 students in 2009.
