Umberto Mozzoni

Umberto Cardinal Mozzoni ( born June 29, 1904 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, † November 7, 1983 in Rome) was a diplomat of the Holy See, and later Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Umberto Mozzoni was the son of Italian emigrants in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires to the world. After leaving school, he studied in Rome and Macerata trays Catholic theology and philosophy. He received on 14 August 1927, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a pastor and teacher in the Diocese of Macerata. From 1935 to 1954 he was in the diplomatic service of the Vatican and provided various tasks in Canada, the UK and Portugal.

Pope Pius XII. 1954 appointed him Titular Archbishop of Side and Apostolic Nuncio to Bolivia. The bishop ordained by Cardinal Umberto Mozzoni James Charles McGuigan. In 1958 he was nuncio in Argentina. Umberto Mozzoni took him the years 1962-1965 the Second Vatican Council in part. In 1969 he became head of the Apostolic Nunciature in Brazil. Pope Paul VI. took him on March 5, 1973 as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Sant'Eugenio in the College of Cardinals, and appointed him a year later as President of the Commission of Cardinals for the Holy Shrines of Pompeii and Loreto. On 2 February 1983, he was appointed while retaining its title diakonia, which was levied per hac vice to title church cardinal priest.

Umberto Mozzoni died on November 7, 1983 in Rome and was buried in the Cathedral of Macerata.
