Unbihexium

Unbihexium is not yet a proven chemical element with atomic number 126 The name is preliminary and is derived from the atomic number.

The Unbihexium isotope UBH -310 probably has a longer than average half-life, because not only the proton number of 126 " magical ", but also the neutron number 184 in nuclear physics "magic number" is.

In the extended periodic table it thus belongs to the series of Superactinoide ( in "normal" periodic table is not included).

History

The first attempt to create the element 126 was made in 1971 by Bimot et al. using the so-called " hot-fusion reaction ":

In the experiment, an alpha- particles was observed with a high energy, and this is seen as an indication of the successful synthesis of the element number 126. Recent studies make the interpretation of these results dar. highly unlikely

Predictions of stable Unbihexium

On the basis of model calculations, it is believed that in the element having the atomic number 126, the outer shell is filled with nuclear protons. Similar considerations were indications that a core with 184 or 196 neutrons should have a maximum stability. It was concluded that the Unbihexium isotopes 310Ubh and 322Ubh for synthesis experiments are the most promising.

Predictions of chemical properties

For the element 126, it is predicted that it will have a new electron configuration. Possibly, the configuration will be as follows: [ UUO ] 5 8 g6 s2. The shape of the 5g and 7d orbitals is doing may be fuzzy. Recent work predict a stable Monofluoride UbhF that could arise by a bond between the 5g orbital of UBH and the 2p orbital of fluorine.
