Union Internationale du Cinéma

The Union Internationale du Cinéma ( UNICA ) is the independent international organization committed to

  • Promoting the production of film and video as tools for international understanding
  • Support of international cultural cooperation and acknowledging the independence and freedom of the member federations.
  • Representation of the member federations at UNESCO.

She is a member of the relevant UNESCO Council. The highest organ of UNICA is the General Assembly, to all member federations have the right to attend and vote. UNICA is headed by a committee, which is composed of 10 members, elected for three years by the General Assembly.

The film archive of UNICA established in 1938 and currently contains over 900 film and video works. The oldest work dates from the year 1935. The film and video copies in the library have been provided free of charge by their manufacturers and the corresponding federations. Member Federations have access to a catalog with detailed information about the archive title.

On request supports the UNICA international film festivals that agree to comply with the rules of patronage. For these events a special UNICA Medal is offered, which is awarded by the organizers.

The national federations are kept up on the latest developments in the market through " UNICA News" to date, a newsletter that is published three or four times a year in different languages. Other publications are also issued on special occasions.

The General Assembly is an annual forum on the meet the member federations to discuss and decide on matters that are important for the future development of UNICA.

The highlight of the annual meeting of UNICA is the World Cup, on each federation in-room movies, which was produced during the past year imagines. Prizes are awarded by an international jury, which also includes professional filmmakers awarded; the interesting work will be awarded gold, silver or bronze medals. The " UNICA - Jeunesse " competition is intended for filmmakers up to 25 years. It is integrated into country programs. The "World Minute Movie Cup" is also open to non-members. It is a competition for films with a length up to 1 minute. The final discussion of the jury, in the decision on the annual award-winning films is public.

The audience has the opportunity to meet at this event, the filmmakers and discuss the films shown. The discussions are carried out with the aid of simultaneous translators. There are also forums on various topics that are relevant to the participants and UNICA members, here meeting for the exchange of ideas and experiences of interest.

The UNICA Committee and the organizers of the Congress seek to contacts between filmmakers, the audience and the non - promote members.
