The United Democratic Party (UDP ) ( German United Democratic Party) is a political party in Gambia. The motto of the party is: English "Justice, Peace and Progress" = " Justice, Peace and Progress".

History

It was founded by human rights advocate Ousainou ANM Darboe in 1996. As a candidate in the presidential election of 18 October 2001, he came to the second place with 32.7 percent of the vote. The last parliamentary elections for the National Assembly on 17 January 2002 were boycotted by the party. In 2005, the UDP united to the opposition coalition National Alliance for Democracy and Development.

Since 2012, the UDP is an associate member of the Socialist International.
