United Nations Security Council Resolution 217

Resolution 217 of the UN Security Council on November 20, 1965 reaffirmed in Resolution 216 of 12 November outspoken condemnation of the white minority regime in Southern Rhodesia and issued a call for an embargo on arms, military equipment and oil. Since the resolution is not explicitly referred to Article 41 of the Charter of the United Nations, and comprised a call for sanctions, they were not binding. Mandatory sanctions were imposed until a year later in Resolution 232.

The resolution was 217 with 10 votes, with the abstention of France, accepted.
