United Nations Security Council Resolution 733

Resolution 733 of the UN Security Council of 23 January 1992 deals with the situation in Somalia following the overthrow of the government of Siad Barre. The resolution imposed in the face of civil war and famine an arms embargo on Somalia. The warring parties are encouraged not to hinder humanitarian assistance and to work towards a ceasefire and peace. All States are encouraged to support these goals and to provide humanitarian assistance. The UN Secretary-General to report to the Security Council on the situation in Somalia Report.

The resolution was unanimously at its 3039th meeting, adopted by the Security Council of the United Nations.
