University of California, Davis

The University of California, Davis (also known as UC Davis) was founded in 1905 and belongs to the University of California (UC ), a system of public universities in the U.S. state of California. The campus of the University is located in Davis, about 25 km west of Sacramento. In autumn 2005 29.637 students were enrolled at the university. The university is a member of the Association of American Universities, an existing association of leading research-intensive since 1900, North American universities.

History

On March 18, 1905, a law was passed which provided for the establishment of a University Farm. As the third UC campus they began operating in 1909 with 40 students at UC Berkeley. The first female students were admitted in 1914. 1959 Finally, the campus was officially incorporated as a seventh campus in University -of -California system.

Sports

The sports teams of the UC Davis call the Aggies. The University is a member of the Big West Conference.
