University of Missouri System

The University of Missouri is a system of public research universities in the U.S. state of Missouri. It consists of four Campus:

  • University of Missouri at Columbia
  • Missouri University of Science and Technology
  • University of Missouri- Kansas City
  • University of Missouri -St. Louis

All four campuses have the same meaning and the diplomas are allocated centrally by the University of Missouri. Columbia is the main campus for full-time studies and research, the Rolla campus is highly regarded by his engineering degree programs and the campus in Kansas City and St. Louis consist largely of part-time students. All campus may award doctoral degrees.

The generic term University of Missouri but is mostly based on the Columbia campus, particularly in the context of the NCAA college sports.

In autumn 2005, a total of 63,200 students were enrolled at the University of composite. 16,300 employees, of whom 7,200 academic staff are employed.

History

The University of Missouri was founded in 1839 in Columbia. It was the first government, institution of higher learning west of the Mississippi River. 1870, the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla has built. The system was expanded in 1963 when the University of Kansas City (which was until now a private university ) was acquired and renamed UM- Kansas City. In the same year, a new campus was erected on the UM -St. Louis. The School of Mines was renamed in 1964 in the UM- Rolla.

The offices of the UM system are located in Columbia.
