The University of Provence Aix -Marseille I ( French: Université de Provence Aix -Marseille I) is one of three public universities in the Greater Marseilles. Their locations can be found in the towns of Aix -en- Provence, Arles, Aubagne, Lambesc and Marseille. It is a start-up in 1968 and goes from the merger of several autonomous faculties, which belonged to the French Revolution to the University of Aix -Marseille forth.

It is named after the historic, landscape south of France Provence, now part of the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur region.

History

The University was established under the reorganization of the French universities after the student riots of 1968 by the Loi Faure in 1969 from parts of the former University of Aix -Marseille.
