The University of Tampere (Finnish Tampere yliopisto; schwed. Tampere universitet ) is a public university in Tampere, Finland. It has approximately 15,600 students and 2,200 employees.

Every year, 10 000 high school seniors applying to the University of Tampere, of which one-tenth are taken after an entrance examination or on the basis of their high school Zeugnises. Annually more than 1000 PhD Master and 100 doctors from the University of Tampere.

The University of Tampere offers a wide range of fields of study. The graduates of the University are often recruited in both the private and public Sektorer. There they act as experts and specialists in the areas of research, administration, communication and Managemant.

History

Originally founded in Helsinki as a university in 1925, it was relocated in the 1960s to Tampere and 1966 recognized as a University. Early 1970s expanded and developed the University, up to its present form. By January 2011, the University consisted of the following six faculties:

  • Faculty of Business Administration and Management
  • Faculty of Educational Sciences
  • Faculty of Social Sciences
  • Faculty of Information Sciences
  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Medical school

In early 2011 the 30 institutes and the six faculties were united than today's nine departments.
