UNIX System III

The AT & T UNIX System III in 1982 was the first commercial edition of Unix. It was developed by the Computer Research Group ( CRG ) at AT & T and from the Unix Systems Group (USG ) looked after. UNIX System III was a union of the former AT & T Unixes: PWB / UNIX 2.0, CB UNIX 3.0, UNIX / TS 3.0.1 and UNIX/32V. Two years later came the sequel, the Unix System V, on the market.

Supported Hardware

There have been supported minicomputer type DEC PDP -11 and VAX.

Innovations

The new features included named pipes ( pipes), as well as the system call and command uname. There are some improvements to version 7 of outside organizations were integrated.

Derivatives

Many early Unix derivatives (eg, Xenix System III or Ultrix ) are largely based on Unix System III.
