Unterkirnach

Unterkirnach is a municipality in Baden -Württemberg and is part of the Schwarzwald- Baar-Kreis.

The name is of Germanic origin and means "Lower Mill". " Mill " is derived from Kürne on Middle High German (1050-1350), Quirn to Old High German (500-1050) and kwirn -uc ( Germanic ).

Geography

Geographical location

Unterkirnach is located on the east side of the Black Forest, about seven kilometers from the district town of Villingen -Schwenningen.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north and east of Villingen- Schwenningen and Mönchweiler, in the south on the town Vohrenbach and to the west by the town of St. Georgen.

The boundaries of the municipality has an in Baden-Württemberg hardly comparable course. Thus, the districts of Unterkirnach and Villingen are closely interlinked. While most forest areas are located around the community to district Villingen, are the open spaces on lower Kirn Acher mountian. Only the boundary line Villingen- Unterkirnach is about 60 km long and forms numerous En - or enclaves.
