Untersiemau

Untersiemau is a municipality in the southern part of the Upper Franconian district of Coburg.

Geography

Untersiemau is located on the eastern edge of the Itztales about 10 kilometers south of Coburg in about 300 meters. East of the village extends Lichtenfelser forest.

History and population

Local nobility was the family Schenk von Siemau, whose coat of arms is still part of the local coat of arms. The municipality was part of the Duchy of Saxe -Coburg and then to the State of Coburg, in 1920 by referendum in the Free State of Bavaria joined.

The church was built in the years 1971 /78, the municipal reform. From 1978 until 1989 she was a member of the administrative community Untersiemau.

Policy

First Mayor of the municipality is Michael Boßecker of the SPD. In the municipal council ( election period in 2008 /14), the SPD / Free citizens with six, the CSU with four, the Free Voters with four and the Independent Voter group are represented by two seats.

Traffic

Untersiemau is located on the B 289, which connects Coburg with Lichtenfels. The B 4 runs through the western municipality. Untersiemau formerly possessed a railway connection to the Itzgrundbahn, the rails have now been removed, and on the route, a cycle path towards Coburg was built. The high-speed line Nuremberg -Erfurt to, among other things, with the 931 m long tunnel of light wood, east pass by the place. The A73 was completed on 5 September 2008 and Untersiemau was connected with a new feeder road (B 289 ).
