Urambo District

The Urambo District is one of six districts of the Tabora region of Tanzania. The district is in the north by the Shinyanga region, in the east by the district Uyui, bounded on the southeast by the district Sikonge, to the southwest by the Rukwa Region, and to the west by the Kigoma region. Administrative headquarters are Urambo.

Urambo is located in the west of Tabora Region. The administrative headquarters can be reached today only through unpaved roads. The nearest railway connection is located in the town of Tabora.

The name goes back to the area around the settlement of the people of Urambo Nyamwesi where the London Missionary Society established a mission station in 1898 by the Moravian Brethren ( Moravian Church ) was taken and still exists today.

According to the census ( Tanzania National Census ) in 2002, the population was 370 796 people.
