Urban Hettich

Urban Hettich ( born March 2, 1953 in Schonach ) is a former German nordic combined athlete and coach.

Hettich was a soldier in the sport since 1972 ski train the training company 7/10 of the 10th Panzer Division in Todtnau -Fahl, coach of the ski train was then Ralph Pöhland. In 1973 he was berfördert to sergeant. His first major success was the bronze medal at the Junior World Championship 1973 in Kawgolowo ( Soviet Union). He participated in three Olympic Winter Games of 1972 in part to 1980. Sapporo in 1972 he finished in the 20th place of his discipline and started the 10 km cross-country ski season, which finished 7th in the 4 x. The highlight of his career, he won at the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck behind Ulrich Wehling the silver medal in the Nordic combined. In 1980 he was in Lake Placid again 14

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, he was flag bearer for the German Olympic team.

After his playing career he became a coach and was responsible, among others, the Canadian Nordic combined and cross-country skiers from Spain. He was the first coach at Skiinternat Furtwangen after its founding in 1984. During the season 2005/2006 he was coach of the Swiss Nordic combined.

Urban Hettich is not related to the 2006 Olympic Champion Georg Hettich, but both come from Schonach.
