Ursula of Brandenburg, Duchess of Münsterberg-Oels

Ursula von Brandenburg (* September 25, 1450, † November 25, 1508 in Breslau) was a princess of Brandenburg and by marriage Duchess of Münsterberg and Oels and Countess of Glatz.

Life

Ursula was the eldest child of the Brandenburg Elector Albrecht Achilles (1414-1486) from his first marriage with Margaret of Baden ( 1431-1457 ). The Princess was considered a favorite child of the Father, and as one of the most prominent victims of the marriage of convenience in the 15th century. First promised the Saxon Duke Albrecht, they have been passed by resolution of the engagement at its older brother Ernst, but also broke this betrothal. Next marriage candidate was Duke Henry the Elder. Münsterberg (1448-1498), son of the Bohemian King George of Podiebrad. In 1466 Pope Paul II disapproved of this engagement as " blasphemous conjunction with a heretic " and Ursula was jointly occupied by her father with excommunication. The relationship of Brandenburg to Emperor Frederick III. were poor because of the marriage. George of Podiebrad and Albrecht Achilles joined thereto a defensive and offensive alliance resist all enemies of marriage.

Ursula became engaged to then secretly even without the knowledge of her father, the Count Rudolf III. of Sulz, Landgraf Unterklettgau. After solving this papal vows they finally married on February 9, 1467 Eger but Duke Henry the Elder. Münsterberg. 1471 imposed the ban on Ursula and her father was released.
