The USS Arlington (LPD - 24) is an Amphibious Transport Dock of the San Antonio - class of the United States Navy. It was named after Arlington County, Virginia, home of the Pentagon. This was done to honor the victims of the terrorist attack on 11 September 2001 on the building.

History

LPD - 24 was commissioned in 2006 and placed the end of 2008 to Kiel. Shipyard Ingalls Shipbuilding was. The Arlington was thus the third of that time eight ships that had been submitted by Avondale Shipyards to Ingalls to not continue to fall behind the schedule - as with the other ships of the San Antonio - class was also the case due to a variety of design problems. Both shipyards include Northrop Grumman.

Ingalls left the Arlington after two years from the stack. On 26 March 2011, the ship was christened, was godmother Joyce Rumsfeld, wife of former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. The U.S. Navy took the ship off in December 2012, and set him on April 6, 2013 Norfolk ( Virginia) in service. Its lifetime is calculated to 40 years. First commander is Commander Darren W. Nelson, who was involved in the repatriation of troops of Operation Enduring Freedom.
