The USS Anchorage (LPD -23 ) is an Amphibious Transport Dock of the San Antonio - class of the United States Navy. It was named after the city of Anchorage, Alaska.

History

LPD - 23 was commissioned in 2006 as the seventh ship of its class in order. The construction contract was awarded to the Group Northrop Grumman, who built the ship in its shipyard Avondale Shipyard. Keel was laid on the ship on 24 September 2007. After about three and a half years in dry dock LPD 23 was launched on 12 February 2011. The baptism in the name Anchorage successes on 11 May 2011, was godmother Annette Conway, wife of former Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James T. Conway.

The Anchorage was passed in September 2012 to the U.S. Navy and put into service on May 4, 2013.
