History

DDG -83 was added in 1996 in order and placed the end of 1998 at Bath Iron Works in Kiel. After just under a year, the destroyer was launched and was baptized. The Howard was made in October 2001 by the shipyard sea trials officially in service.

2004 operated the Howard with the USS John C. Stennis (CVN- 74) exercises in the Pacific. 2008, the destroyer moved to the USS Ronald Reagan ( CVN -76) in the Persian Gulf. On this trip, the Howard stayed with the Ukrainian cargo ship Faina, which was hijacked off Somalia by pirates and war, has loaded, among other battle tank T -72, for Kenya. The end of 2008 the group went to the home to San Diego. Shortly thereafter came out of the port - wave of Howard from Hyrdaulikflüssigkeit, whereupon it was switched off. With reduced speed, the Howard drove the over 9000 miles to Guam. In Apra Harbor examined divers and technicians, the drive systems and finally gave the green light for the crossing of the Pacific, 9000 km further, with only one shaft. After a refueling stop at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the Howard reached San Diego on 29 November, the ship was docked there and repaired.

2009 was followed by a transfer to the Reagan in the western Pacific Ocean. In June 2011, Howard took part in an exercise with the Malaysian Navy.
